The historic announcement of France’s appointment to host the 42nd edition of the Ryder Cup in 2018 was made today Tuesday, May 17th at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England. France was up against bids from Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden and Spain. Havas Sports & Entertainment is thrilled to celebrate this victory alongside the French Golf Federation, for the organization of the Ryder Cup 2018.

Since 2001, Havas Sports & Entertainment has been the official communications agency of the French Golf Federation, and has worked with them for the last two years in developing their candidature for the Ryder Cup in 2018, to take place at Le Golf National near Paris.

The Ryder Cup, golf’s legendary trophy, has been awarded since 1927 to the tournament’s champion, which pits Europe’s team of golfers against the United States. The competition takes place every two years, alternating between European and American courses.

Appointed to manage all levels of the communications campaign around the bid, Havas Sports & Entertainment were notably most present in the development of their positioning, carrying out of several large-scale general public campaigns (in France: promotional media and gratitude campaigns / in Wales: a poster campaign throughout the 2010 Ryder Cup), the bid’s video reel, the bid presentation’s design and look, the official presentations of the bid report and the international lobbying effort targeted at key decision makers.

The awarding of this prestigious competition will serve to catalyze the development and democratization of French golf, which will also benefit from the effect of its return as an Olympic sport, following the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brazil.
